ISAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Perth 2011Monday, 12 Dec, 2011
I am writing to all those who have supported me during my Olympic campaign this year, as I have just completed the last qualifying event being the World Championships in Perth.
While I would prefer to thank each and every one of you in person, please accept this general letter for now, as my opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the finance you so generously gave, the emotional support and encouragement, all equally valuable and vital to me during what proved to be a very difficult and expensive campaign.
I would like to be able to tell you that I have succeeded in my quest for Olympic selection, but unfortunately I have finished runner-up. I came very close to succeeding at a couple of the regattas, but sadly, I cannot find a "near enough is good enough" clause in the selection criteria! I am now a member of the Australian Sailing Shadow Team and will therefore maintain my fitness and continue windsurfing in the short term at least, just in case I am needed.
While the past six months have seen quite a few trials and tribulations come my way, I can honestly say I am blessed and I have much to be thankful for. So thank you again for allowing me this opportunity to pursue what has been for me a fourteen year goal to represent Australia at the Olympics.
