Allison Supports Sport for Women Day 6th March 2011Wednesday, 12 Jan, 2011
Allison and over 100 elite Sportswomen from around Australia will come together for a single cause on the 6th March 2011, Sport for Women Day! The launch in November was a great success with elite sportswomen like Kerri Pottharst, Elise Perry, Ros Lawrence, Karina Cannon, Melissa Wu and many others doing Zumba with hundreds of women in the background.
Sport for women is one of four initiatives that Sports Hydrant promotes and has set the following challenges:
- to raise the profile of women's sport across Australia
- to secure increased media coverage of women's sport in Australia
- to encourage young Australian women to continue to participate in sport as they move through life
- to combat negative portrayals of women's sport in the media
"Personally I'm very excited about this day. It is our chance to group together and promote women's sport in a nation run event. We have so many amazing elite sportswomen in our country that don't get any recognition for their success and struggle to get the media coverage and financial support to continue playing the sport they love, hopefully awareness is raised and together we can make a difference." Allison says.
You can register to be a part of Sport for Women Day at www.sportforwomenday.com.au. Bring your girl friends and meet your favourite sporting heroines at 9am on the 6th March. Channel 9 are supporting Sport For Women Day as we pack out major stadiums and venues in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Hope to see you there!
